Ministry of Sound Night Filming

As part of our ongoing animation project for Ministry of Sound, myself and James Clancy went to do some filming and get some research from the Ministry of Sound Night at Pure Nightclub in Manchester. Ministry of Sound were so interested in our project that we received 4 V.I.P. guestlist tickets for free. We were greeted by 'Irish Dave' who was promoting the event. He gave us lots of free merchandise including CD's and T-shirts. We went around the building taking numerous shots and videos from all sorts of angles. The promoters then spoke to the DJ and we were allowed on the stage and into the DJ booth to take some more footage. It all worked really well. We only used a small part of the footage in the final animation but because we had done so much filming we could choose a really good scene to use.

Concept Studies

Our brief for Concept Studies was to filter out of our mind everything as we know it today. As if we were a baby, new to the world. I took this literally and aimed to create a vision of what I might have seen as a child and from a different perspective. The night before I had spoken to my Mum about the way people don't remember what they used to see and used to think when they were very young. Like animals we don't know what babies are actually thinking so I added a cheeky attitude to the baby with reference to the baby in Family Guy. The final Video can be seen on the link below.

Magazine and Competition Brief Exhibition

Today we rounded up all the work we had done in 2008 by having an exhibition of our final produced magazines, magazine making videos and our ideas for the competition briefs. Some of us also showed our animation videos on the Mac.

We worked hard all day to make sure every thing was ready on time and bound for people to pick up and look at. Everybody's work looked very professional and the day went well. Later that evening we all met in the Nelson to watch our tutor's gig and celebrate the end of the college year.

Anne Frank Exhibition

Today we visited the Anne Frank Exhibition in Stockport Gallery. She touched on a lot of issues mainly about racism and her work had a lot of influences on the way people think today.

The exhibition was a timeline of her life as well as modern interpretations such as the Nike against Racism campaign etc.

We also enquired about how the boards were put together and the materials used to put it all together aswell as the lighting which gives us more information to be used within our design.

Fudge Lecture

Today, a representative of the design agency Fudge came into give a talk to us. The talk was different to others I had experienced as he went through 1 single project from start to finish which helped me realise the knockbacks and amount of ideas needed to come to the best conclusion.

Starting off with a number of rough sketches on anything from paper to post-it notes just to get some ideas out. This leads on to bigger ideas which get sketched out a bit more thoroughly.

The project was to design a new identity for British Tennis and Squash. The word British was obviously predominant in the ideas and the use of red, white and blue was abundant. Typical ideas such as the racquet, ball, lion and rose were the route to go but in a more contemporary way. These ideas were developed and ended up as a choice of 5 logos which then were digitally created in colour and black and white.

Overall it was a good insight into the way a project starts and ends which we haven't been shown so much upto now.
