D&AD Student Member Non Entry Survey

D&AD have sent me a survey e-mail to ask some questions about why I didn't enter the student competitions even though I am a member. There were number of questions that, when answered, will help to make D&AD even better next year. This year I entered the YCN awards instead but after visiting the New Blood awards and receiving lots of e-mails from D&AD I am hopefully going to enter the awards for them next year.

Spider E-mail

Today I had this e-mail sent to me with the message : Amazing!

Poke and prod the spider with your mouse, also 'grab' one of its legs with your mouse and drag it around the screen. Tell me it's not alive!

Also, anywhere on the map put the cursor and then hit the space bar and it leaves little bugs. Watch the spider go after them and when she catches them they disappear; this is totally crazy and creepy too!

It really does work and shows very impressive computer technology which could potentially be used in other viral advertising.

Leicestershire Web Designs

One of my clients has recently relocated to Leicestershire from the Manchester area and has, in turn, decided to create a new identity related to the new area. The new name is Leicestershire Web Designs. The idea of the logo works around sites being built up with blocks and also reference old computer games aswell as pixels. The flyer design above also echoes this idea. We will be collaborating with LWD on numerous Web projects in the near future and are currently in the process of designing their stationery and website.

Bill Bored Billboard

I had a random idea for a billboard which could target people looking for something new such as a new job because they are bored with their life as it is. The character would be called Bill who is always bored. This works out as a Bill Bored Billboard.

TOILET TO LET

For our summer project we have been asked to keep a notebook of ideas as we are going along. One of the ideas I have had comes from last year where I noticed that the To Let sign in Burton, Stockport looked like the word toilet with the 'i' missing. I have had a go at changing a few but if there were a lot it could be an interesting project.

Mccann Erickson Month Complete

I have now completed a month's work at Mccann Erickson. Originally I had only been meant to be there a week but I have been asked to come back each week as I have been told I'm doing well. I have been working on campaigns for the new range for Scholl and also done a lot on new advertising ideas for Peugeot aswell as other jobs and ideas for Sainsburys. This has involved lots of ideas generation and research which is reinforced by lots of meetings with fellow creatives aswell as input from the different perspective of media and digital. I have learnt how to script TV ads by setting the scene and telling the story aswell as describing the dialogue. sounds and props.

For the Scholl advert I now have 3 ideas that are scripted and ready to use. The Peugeot ad is at a more advanced stage as we have filmed and directed it from the original script and idea I had. The process has been a lot of fun and I have been lucky enough to be insured by the agency on a brand new Peugeot 207 to drive for the week. I cannot yet disclose any information about the adverts but they will be put up at a later date.

I have also been invited back for a further week. The start of which will be taken up by editing videos using Final Cut and AfterEffects in the digital suite. I will be involved in meetings next week about the videos and I assume I will be involved in new briefs aswell as a review about the Sainsburys work.

Overall it has been a great month with a great agency and I look forward to going back next week.
